General Objectives

The group activity is mainly oriented towards the study of interactions between the chemical composition of the diet and certain parameters both nutritional and healthy body that consumes it. Thus, we studied issues such as digestive and metabolic utilization of nutrients, the physiological effects locally (intestine) or systemic chemical fractions of foods (proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, etc..). Special attention is devoted to the study of the mechanisms of action and biological effects of both a nutritional and non-nutritional active substances in food or added to the diet (prebiotics, antibacterial agents), with particular attention to effects on the composition of gastrointestinal microbiota in monogastrics.
